TPF identified through parent carer engagement, such as drop-ins, discussion groups, surveys and with STEP supporting parent carers on a 1:1 basis that there is a significant need for emotional support.  This is something which is not easily accessible or available and comes with a long waiting list or complicated referral process, leaving many parent carers experiencing multiple crisis points with little or no support on their SEND journey.

As a result of a recent successful funding bid with Trafford Housing Trust, TPF are able to offer, bespoke psychotherapy which is person centred around a parent carer needs and is not a prescriptive offer, to those parent carers who have been identified and previously emotionally supported by our peer to peer support service and would significantly benefit from.

To deliver this we have appointed a qualified psychotherapist with over 10 years’ experience supporting parent carers of children and young people with additional needs and disabilities both within a Local Authority and third sector context.  This, combined with her therapy experience, will has enabled us to provide a structured, informed, professional and empathetic psychotherapy service to parent carers experiencing a range of emotional difficulties.

We anticipate that in total we will provide at least 48 parent carers with 24-26 weekly sessions each over 2 years, which will be delivered across multiple platforms including face-to-face, via zoom and telephone, with reasonable adjustments to suit the needs of the parent carer receiving therapy.
